George Beggs Masks, Gods and "Billionaires" Museum Composites 2014 Masks, Gods and "Billionaires" Important figures of power and influence from the deep past - Portfolio 1 No doubt the persons and spirits represented in these clay figures and earthen pots where revered, admired, worshiped, emulated and feared. Either directly, or indirectly, they could elevate or suppress, enhance or manipulate the lives of many people. They were bestowers of goodness and destroyers of lives - the archeological record shows this to be true. Perhaps the equal of billionaires in their day. These pictures are composite images The masks and gods are images that I shot in October 2014 at an exhibition called Cerámica de los Ancestros: Central America’s Past Revealed at The National Museum of the American Indian, on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The artifacts date to about 1000 AD.
