These images were made at Monument Rocks National Natural Landmark in Kansas and Black Mesa State Park in the Oklahoma panhandle. Monument Rocks is located about 20 miles south of I-70 along Hwy.83. Eighty million years ago this region was an open ocean. Thousands of years of sculpting by the Smoky Hill River have left what you see today.
The site is officially recognized by the National Park Service as a National Natural Landmark. Black Mesa is contiguous with both New Mexico and Colorado. Kenton, OK, the last OK town
on Highway 325, is within a 5 mile wide sliver of the mountain time zone at the western edge of the panhandle
